Maybe I Just Need Glasses
For sixteen months, friends, family and even complete strangers have been telling me how much Ava looks like me. I do see some resemblance; after all, she is my daughter. But I don’t see the “mini me” everyone keeps telling me they see. There are times when she looks JUST like her father. There are times I see a look on her face and I flash back to a photo of myself at that age. But most of the time I think she’s a good blend of Darin and I both.
I put together a couple of collages of Ava and myself at approximately the same ages. Around the eyes, I see a lot likeness. The rest? Not so much. But here they are. Tell me what you think.

Um yeah, hi. I totally see it.
I think that all the time. But when you pull out baby photos it becomes more apparent.

Nope. I just don’t see it. But I really stink at this game. I very rarely think babies look like their parents, and always wonder when people say they do. It’s most fun when people argue: “She looks just like her daddy!” someone else right there: “No she doesn’t! She totally looks like her mommy!” Hmmm….. Maybe people see what they want to see (as with many things in life).
I see glimpses of Hubs or I in J now and then – I think in certain facial expressions. But, mostly I think she’s her own little person, and that’s just fine with me.

I don’t see it either!! I think she looks like her own little person too….will have to see if I can find some pics of Darin at those ages….
she has your face shape and certain features. I’m sure she’s probably a mix of you both. features change a lot as they get older.
People tell me that my younger son looks like me. I can’t see it. When I look at my boys I see my boys, no one else so I understand how you can’t see yourself in your daughter. I also couldn’t see it when people used to say I looked like my mom. But if I took a picture of myself and turned it upside down, I could see it. I know it sounds strange but I think distorting the image fooled my brain somehow so I could see the resemblance. But then again, maybe I need glasses too.

She’s just hands down gorgeous, J. I do see a resemblance to you, but not a carbon copy. Both of my kids are replicas of Chase, but in their own ways. Every once in a while I’ll get a picture of Claire where she resembles me but you wouldn’t believe the number of times I’ve been asked if I’m the babysitter/aunt/friend, especially when we’re with Chase’s sister, who Claire looks exactly like.
Oddly enough, I belong to the crowd that thinks a baby looks a whole lot like a baby. 90% of the babies all look alike in the nursery.
My daughter, I swear, was switched at birth and I came home with someone else’s baby, but everyone says she looks like her paternal grandmother, and her father. I just don’t see it. Yes, they both have dark eyes, nice completion…..but that’s where the similarities end.
My son, he looks so much like my brother did at that age, it freaks me out. A woman never wants her child to look anything like the male members of her family…feels wrong. Bright blue eyes…same as me and a paternal aunt. Blond hair….same as paternal aunt (natural!) and my brother (when he was a baby)

First of all, she is so adorable
Second, I definitely see a resemblance, especially in that second set of photos. I’m sure she is a mix of your and Darin, but you can definitely tell she is your daughter

Mason and Mike’s birth pics are almost identical. Now everyone says he looks like me, but his facial expressions & behavior are ALL MIKE.
